The Treasury: Your future. Australia’s future.
Monica – 2010 Treasury Graduate
Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Economics, University of New South Wales
The graduate year at Treasury has been one of the most exciting and challenging times of my life. It has really allowed me to broaden my skills, push myself outside of my comfort zone and achieve things that I didn’t think were possible. One highlight of the program was the opportunity to be a part of the production of a budget paper, a challenging yet rewarding experience that I could only have through working at Treasury.
Someone once told me “Canberra is about the people, not the place”. I have made some friends here that will be friends for life. Moving to Canberra from Sydney is definitely a decision I don’t regret.
Treasury is a great place to start your career as it is at the forefront of economic policy advice. This makes sure to give each and every graduate a diversity of work in an ever changing environment. As a graduate I have been handed important responsibilities and have always felt that my skills have been respected. The training program has helped to develop a wide range of skills that have been important to both my personal and professional development. Having the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of all Australians is a reason why I aspired to work at Treasury and I have really enjoyed my work here.
About Treasury
Treasury is a central agency within the Australian Public Service and is the government’s premier adviser on economic issues. Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of all Australians by providing quality advice to the government and assisting in the implementation of key policy initiatives.
Treasury monitors and advises on a range of economic issues, but the scope of work that Treasury is involved in goes beyond economics. The recovery from the global financial crisis, the review of the tax system, and the production of the federal budget are just a few of the many issues that our employees are involved in.
If you have an interest in public policy and are looking for a challenging and rewarding career with the potential to impact the lives of all Australians, then Treasury could be for you.
