The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) is Australia’s national security intelligence service.

ASIO’s role and functions
ASIO’s role is to identify and investigate threats to security, whenever they arise, and to protect Australia, its people and its interests.

ASIO does this by collecting, analysing and evaluating intelligence relevant to security and providing advice to ministers, Commonwealth and state authorities, and other entities approved by the Attorney-General.

Why ASIO?
We will support, develop and inspire you – helping you convert university theory into meaningful outcomes.

Through ongoing specialised training and development, you’ll get to build on your skills, learn new ones, and grow into a professional that’s respected, acknowledged and encouraged to break the norm.

Who are you?
The nature of our work means we are looking for people from all disciplines. ASIO employs graduates from across the spectrum of tertiary study—including, but not limited to, engineering, international relations, counter-terrorism, security studies, education, information technology, law, journalism and the arts.

Positions at ASIO include:

  • intelligence officers
  • ICT specialists
  • psychologists
  • lawyers
  • translators
  • engineers (software, mechanical, electrical)
  • analysts (data exploitation)
  • human resources
  • finance
  • technical support.

If you enjoy a challenge, thrive on building effective and diverse relationships, are able to make sound judgements under pressure—consider a career with ASIO.

Application process
To be considered for a role with ASIO, you need to apply online via our website www.asio.gov.au for an advertised vacancy.

Selection and Assessment
The selection and assessment period is lengthy and candidates must be prepared to undergo various selection and assessment stages over an extended period of time. In addition, candidates must be assessed as suitable to hold a positive vet security clearance, which will involve extensive background checking.

ASIO holds all employment applications in the strictest of confidence and it is essential that you do the same. Do not discuss your application with others.
