Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) - Cadetship

The RBA is Australia’s central bank. Our two-year Graduate Development Program is offered to students of Economics, Finance, IT, Accounting, Law, Mathematics and Science.

We also offer the Cadetship Award for students of Economics and Finance which includes an eight-week vacation work placement.

At the RBA you will have opportunities to apply your academic knowledge directly to real-life challenges from day one. We offer a supportive learning environment for graduates, emphasising and encouraging professional contributions. Our graduate roles are designed to develop a foundation for a diverse career at the RBA: we place particular emphasis on technical research, analysis, and professional presentation skills.

The Graduate Development Program offers career opportunities across a broad spectrum of the functional areas of the RBA to talented students of Economics, Finance, IT, Accounting, Law, Mathematics and Science. These roles are designed to utilise your analytical and research skills as well as nurture your professional development. Highlights of the Graduate Development Program include comprehensive training, structured learning seminars and opportunities to work alongside preeminent experts.

The Cadetship Award includes vacation work held over the summer university break. It provides an opportunity for talented potential graduates to obtain firsthand experience of the work of the RBA. Cadets undertake project work, culminating in a research paper and formal presentation.

As a Cadet, an experienced mentor will guide your work and offer tailored feedback on your research, writing, and presentation skills. Throughout, you will obtain key insights on the RBA’s role and how we operate: you will also gain an appreciation of how your skills might contribute to the organisation. Outstanding cadets are offered financial and research support during their honours year upon acceptance of a position on the Bank’s Graduate Development Program.

The RBA’s graduate positions provide unique opportunities to contribute to an organisation that has an impact on the life of every Australian.
