Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) is the Australian Government’s lead agency charged with applying science and technology to protect and defend Australia and its national interests.  DSTO research supports Australian Defence by investigating future technologies, developing new capabilities, providing smart buying advice, increasing performance and safety, and reducing costs.  DSTO’s capability also supports whole-of-government national security needs.  As an organisation, DSTO employs approximately 2300 staff.

Positions may be offered at the following Science & Technology – S&T (Australian Public Service – APS) classification levels:

  • S&T Level 3 (APS 4-5) $52,009 - $62,135
  • S&T Level 4 (APS 6) $63,550 - $72,595

The classification level may be dependent on the level of qualifications attained, knowledge, skills and experience of the successful applicant.

When to apply

Applications can be submitted at any time. DSTO holds two major assessment activities annually, typically beginning in April and August of each year, however, applications are also assessed regularly between intake periods. 

Eligibility

The employment package includes Australian Public Service conditions of service.  Applicants must satisfy the requirements of an appropriate security clearance and meet conditions in relations to citizenship, character and medical fitness.
