From fighter aircraft and satellites to tents and rations, the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) is Australia’s largest project management and professional engineering organisation. DMO is a civilian group in the Department of Defence and has around 7,000 people in more than 50 locations throughout Australia and overseas. We are responsible for acquiring and sustaining the equipment used by the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

DMO is involved in many of the largest, most demanding and leading edge projects in Australia. The ADF relies on DMO to provide its equipment on time, on budget and to the required levels of quality and safety.

If the DMO were a private company it would be one of the largest on the Australian Stock Exchange. The DMO has an annual budget of over $9.6 billion to acquire and sustain military equipment and services. In addition, DMO manages in excess of $60 billion worth of capital equipment projects and systems such as the ANZAC Class ships.
