Transit New Zealand

Transit is a Crown entity responsible for planning, building and maintaining New Zealand’s state highways. Transits objective is “To operate the state highway system in a way that contributes to an integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable land transport system”.  Transit also works with government and local authority partners to contribute positively to an expanding and vibrant economy.

Our vision is for “A transport system that builds a better New Zealand”. This is an exciting time for Transit and people working for it as the organisation plans next year’s merger with Land Transport New Zealand. Within the new entity called Transport Agency New Zealand, there will be many new and great opportunities for you.

What we offer

Transit’s Graduate Program offers a thorough opportunity to experience all aspects of the organisation to progress towards gaining professional registration. This involves highly knowledgeable and supportive mentoring, internal rotation both within regional offices from Whangarei to Dunedin and National Office based in Wellington, International Exchange Scheme (currently to the United Kingdom), secondment to consultants and contractors, on-going training, payment of professional fees and a competitive salary.

Transit is a Professional Development Partner by IPENZ. Each graduate is employed on a permanent contract and receives all the benefits and options received by Transit staff. When they have received sufficient experience and training, they are encouraged to apply for established positions in their chosen speciality within the organisation.
