At Statistics New Zealand we employ people from a variety of backgrounds. Some people are experienced while others are starting out. Some people have stats and maths degrees while others have studied sociology, law, finance, history, IT, psychology or marketing – the list could go on!
We employ people from a variety of backgrounds because we report on a variety of information. Do you know how many sheep there are in NZ? We provide that information. Want to know how many people are in prisons and what they are there for? We can tell you that. Think half of all marriages end in divorce? Not true.
At Statistics NZ we work collaboratively with other statistical agencies to ensure we are world class in what we do. Secondments between agencies in Canada, Australia and the UK help us foster these relationships and add depth to our knowledge, as well as providing exciting opportunities for our employees.
