The term ‘public accountant’
The term ‘public accountant’ covers much more than those who work in public / professional practice. It recognises a professionally qualified Accountant, irrespective of the sector or industry they are employed in. It is imperative that members have a designation and qualification that is recognised anywhere in the world.
Flexible Entry
The IPA is dedicated to helping students from both University and TAFE; no matter what a student’s final qualification is, the IPA has a pathway that will enable them to obtain a postgraduate Master of Commerce in Professional Accounting.
IPA Program
The IPA is the only professional accounting body in Australia to offer a university Masters qualification, through the IPA Program. The IPA Program is a fully accredited educational pathway that provides members with a globally recognised university postgraduate qualification, allowing members to obtain a Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting and/or a Master of Commerce degree. The IPA Program enables members to:
- gain a Masters degree in two years;
- advance their career;
- receive global recognition;
- possess a sense of personal and professional achievement; and
- study online with distance learning.
Mentored Experience Program
The IPA’s Mentored Experience Program (MEP) is a work-experience based program in which candidates are guided by a mentor through agreed areas of activity. At the end of the Program, members will have acquired skills and experiences that will enhance their professional opportunities and provide higher self-confidence and enhanced recognition in their workplace. The MEP helps young Accountants grow professionally and personally with the assistance of experienced professionals.
The IPA Project
The IPA Project gives students the opportunity to solve a real-world challenge and win $5,000 cash for themselves and $5,000 cash for their University or TAFE. Students can enter as an individual or as a team of two.
The competition will run for six weeks beginning 12 March 2012. All submissions will be judged by a panel of three Accounting industry experts.
The IPA Project is a great way for students to experience solving a real business problem before they enter the corporate world.
The IPA provides international students with a pathway and the assistance they need to migrate to Australia. As an IPA member, students will receive information and tips on how to find a job.

Free student membership
The IPA provides students with free student membership. The IPA believes that access to resources that will encourage accounting students to become professionals, should be at no cost. IPA student membership will equip accounting students with the right tools for a smooth transition into their first accounting job.
