Dept of Finance and Deregulation

Our People are our BIGGEST Asset

The Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance) Graduate Program offers a diverse and comprehensive introduction into the public service with twelve months of training and development activities. This program is developed to equip our new graduates with the skills and knowledge to become high quality Finance employees and to underpin their future careers within Finance and the Australian Public Service (APS).

Our program addresses four key areas:

  • The work of the Department
  • The way in which the Department operates
  • Working in the Australian Public Service
  • Skills development
  • Career progression

Promotions Galore

Finance conducts two promotion rounds each year, enabling graduates who have completed all elements of the program to advance from the APS 3 (starting level) to the APS 4 and then the APS 5 classifications.

Having too much fun? Then extend your stay!

An optional Second Year Program will be offered for participants who have completed the Graduate Development Program. This is a great opportunity to further enhance your skills and attributes and prepare you for future leadership roles within the Department. Under the Second Year Program participants are able to secure promotions and continue in the program.

A Graduate Third Year Program will be available for past graduates wanting to complete a formal qualification in management through the Finance Postgraduate Study Program. This allows Finance’s graduates to start postgraduate study with only two years work experience (rather than needing to have three years work experience as per the university’s entrance requirements).

“Being a graduate meant I received lots of training to help me understand Finance’s role and to also provide me with the skills to be more productive in my day-to-day work environment.”
-- Nick Wilson, AGIMO/Service Delivery, Operations Branch
