As the largest education provider in the southern hemisphere, the NSW Department of Education and Training coordinates the delivery of education and training services from preschool to tertiary studies. NSW public school teachers command one of the highest commencing salaries of any profession, with many opportunities for professional growth, leadership advancement and lifestyle enhancement.
Salaries & benefits
In 2010, four-year trained teachers earn from $54,749 to $81,656. This range increases to $56,829-$84,759 in 2011. An attractive range of salaries for promotions positions reflects levels of responsibility. Incentives are also offered to teachers in many rural locations and may include:
locality allowances valued at up to $7,000p.a. vacation travel expense allowance
generous rental subsidies
one week’s additional summer vacation in certain areas of the State.
NSW public school teachers also enjoy generous leave and other entitlements.
