As the largest education provider in the southern hemisphere, the NSW Department of Education and Training coordinates the delivery of education and training services from preschool to tertiary studies. Whether you’re a teacher education graduate, or have qualifications in a related discipline, you can use your degree to make a difference as a teacher in NSW public schools. Our teachers command one of the highest commencing salaries of any profession, with many opportunities for professional growth, leadership advancement and lifestyle enhancement.
Salaries & benefits
From January 2008, four year trained teachers earn from $50 522 to $75 352.
An attractive range of salaries for promotion positions reflects levels of responsibility. Incentives are also offered to teachers in many rural locations and may include: locality allowances valued at up to $7 000pa; vacation travel expense allowance; a generous rental subsidy and one week additional summer vacation.
The deferred salary scheme allows teachers to take a year off to undertake postgraduate study, obtain industry experience, work in overseas educational systems or pursue other activities. There are also teacher exchange programs to other NSW schools, interstate schools or to other countries.
