Describe the application process you undertook to secure your graduate position with Australia Post.
I completed an online application, including a motivational profile to identify the role I would be best suited to. I was then invited to spend a day with Australia Post staff, where I participated in activities with them and Circus Oz. Lastly, I completed a behavioural interview in front of a panel.
What were your responsibilities working on the bicentenary celebrations?
Whilst undertaking the role of Bicentenary Program Coordinator, I was assigned a diverse range of tasks and responsibilities including: coordinating and hosting interstate events; working with News Limited to produce articles to commemorate the bicentenary celebrations; assisting with the marketing of the Australia Post 200 Seconds Short Film competition; and developing and managing an internal bicentenary website for employees.
How did you hear about the program and what made you want to apply with Australia Post?
I first encountered the Australia Post graduate program at a career fair, where I was able to speak directly to employees and get a feel for the organisation. What appealed to me most was that the program allows graduates to complete two 12-month rotations, which meant I would be exposed to a range of different business areas and opportunities.
What is unique about the Australia Post graduate program?
All Australia Post graduates participate in a series of team building and leadership workshops run by Circus Oz and Genos. The sessions are fun and provide a great opportunity to get to know the other graduates. We complete a full day of activities, followed by a group forum where we discuss our personal strengths, achievements, teamwork and how we can use the skills we have developed in the workplace.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
There are several benefits of voluntary work. You can choose what type of industry you want to work in; you are constantly meeting new people from diverse industries and backgrounds; you can develop your own network of contacts who can offer career guidance and support; and you may potentially be offered employment by the organisation.
